Born to Raise Hell & Sing the Blues.

Last Few Weeks, Poor Mental Health & Sickness

I wanted to share a bit about what’s been happening in my world lately as I have taken a bit of a break from my socials.

First, I’ve been dealing with a pesky flu that won’t budge as quickly as I would like. It’s been a real challenge, both physically and mentally. You know how it is when you’re stuck in that cycle of feeling under the weather, which takes a toll on your mood. Yeah, that’s where I’m at. I’m not one to let a little setback keep me down for long.

So, what’s been helping me through these tough times? Being kind to myself, practising self-care, and doing my best to quiet the overachiever voice in my head.

One thing that always lifts my spirits is reflecting on all the incredible experiences I’ve had in my music journey. From memorable gigs to recording sessions that just clicked, I’ve been lucky to meet some truly unique people. Remembering these moments reminds me of how far I’ve come and fills me with gratitude for the journey ahead.

Regarding personal development, I’ve been diving into the pages of Susan Jeffers’ “Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway.” It’s been like a guiding light, helping me navigate the uncertainties and fears that sometimes creep into my mind. Jeffers’ wisdom is genuinely empowering, and I find myself returning to her words whenever I need a little confidence boost.

Of course, music has always been my sanctuary, and lately, I’ve been immersing myself in the soul-stirring tunes of Zach Bryan. Something about his raw, honest lyrics speaks to my soul.

Now, let’s talk food. Cooking has always been a therapeutic outlet for me, and lately, I’ve been experimenting with healthy recipes to nourish both body and soul. One dish that’s been a real winner is my twist on shepherd’s pie, where I swap out the traditional potatoes for sweet potatoes. Trust me, it’s a game-changer.

I binge-watched the Fallout series. Something about that post-apocalyptic world draws me in, offering a temporary escape from reality. The games are epic, too, and I love those historical what-ifs, like in the Wolfenstein games.

Of course, amidst all the chaos, I’ve still channelled my creativity into my music. I’ve been writing lyrics inspired by my favourite movies and books, one is a song about cannibals & burgers the other is a whiskey ballad, using storytelling to make sense of the world around me. It’s been cathartic, and I’m hopeful I’ll soon be able to sing without feeling that painful tightness in my chest.

So, there you have it, folks. Despite the challenges I’ve been facing, I’m staying upbeat and focused on the things that bring me joy. After all, as they say, tough times don’t last, but tough people do. And I’m determined to come out of this stronger than ever.

Until next time, keep chasing your dreams and finding beauty in the little things. We’ve got this.

Peace and love,

Derek Lee Goodreid
